ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY
Central University (CU), since its establishment in 1998, has been undergoing steady expansion in its programme offerings for the large number of Senior High School leavers in the country and beyond. As a Christian institution with the aim of providing tertiary education, the University offers opportunities for career development as a significant contribution to national development. The then Board of Regents, at its 23rd meeting held in March 2007, approved the establishment of the School of Applied Sciences to offer, among others, a programme in Nursing.
The Department of Nursing under the School of Applied Sciences launched the BSc Nursing programme in 2008 and has been running smoothly. At the 28th and 29th Council meetings of the University, the School of Nursing and Midwifery was born, effective 1st September, 2023.
DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMMES OFFERED
The School of Nursing and Midwifery has two (2) Departments – Nursing and Midwifery. Our programmes are offered in conducive and highly stimulating environments that foster theoretical and clinical teaching and learning activities. Our excellent faculty delivers robust competency-based curricula, utilizing competency-based and student-centred approaches to teaching and learning.

SKILLS LABORATORIES
The School of Nursing and Midwifery has two departmental skills laboratories for training Nursing and Midwifery students in preparation for their exposure to real hospital and ward situations.
- Nursing Skills Laboratory – for hands-on training and general nursing skills acquisition.
- Midwifery Skills Laboratory – for hands-on training and midwifery skills acquisition.
CLINICAL ATTACHMENTS
All Students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery will be attached to accredited hospitals/Ministry of Health facilities outside the University campus in groups for their hands-on practical/clinical training under the tutelage of competent clinical preceptors and mentors, and with strict supervision by the Head of Department and clinical coordinators.

LIBRARY RESOURCES
Central University has a well-stocked Library which operates a hybrid system consisting of both physical and online resources and services. The Science Library, which has the Nursing and Midwifery sections, can be found on the First Floor of Block ‘F’ at the Miotso Campus, and on the Undergraduate Library on the 2nd Floor of the main building at the Christ Temple Campus. All students are encouraged to patronise the facility.
