PROF. PHILIP NORTEY

Profile

Associate Professor Philip Nortey is an experienced research chemist and pharmaceutical scientist with extensive expertise in analytical chemistry and drug development. His research focuses on the development of innovative iron chelators for the treatment of sickle cell disease and thalassaemia, contributing to improved therapeutic options for patients with iron overload complications. He is also involved in the development of innovative reversed-phase HPLC columns to enhance analytical efficiency and separation performance.

Professor Nortey brings many years of experience from the UK National Health Service and major pharmaceutical companies, where he worked as a research chemist and quality control analyst for raw materials, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), antibiotics, and finished pharmaceutical products.

He possesses strong theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, UV/Visible spectroscopy, FT-IR, dissolution testing, Karl Fischer titration, TLC, disintegration, tablet hardness, viscometry, and stability studies. His experience extends to method development and validation, instrument calibration, cleaning validation, LIMS application, out-of-specification investigations, SOP development, and compliance with GLP, GMP, and ICH guidelines.
