MBA HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The programme aims at enhancing the career of students pursuing the MBA Human Resource Management programme by transferring to them comprehensive knowledge in theories and practice of human resource management as pertains in Ghana and the world over.

The MBA in Human Resources Management Programme is also intended to develop competent professionals and career-oriented Human Resource individuals with capability to function in senior-level positions in governmental, non-governmental and private organisations.

Aims of MBA HRM

• To offer a learning environment intended to develop high-calibre and transformational Human Resource professionals equipped with the requisite skills as strategic partners in managerial and executive decision making and also provide practical solutions to complex HR issues in the corporate environment.

• To develop globally-oriented HR professionals who appreciate best international HR practices that have relevance to local and global corporate environments.

Key Objectives

• Contribute meaningfully to strategic HR decisions through policy formulation and implementation.

• Offer Human Resource consultancy services to businesses.

• Understand the global business environment and best international HR practices and advise management on contextualizing relevant aspects of these practices in their respective organisations.

Careers

• Ghana’s economy is expected to experience considerable growth rate in the next decade, fuelled by the recent oil production in 2010. This growth will stimulate a corresponding demand for managerial talent needed to take Ghana to the next level of her middle income status. Growth is expected in the financial sector, in banking, insurance and finance, as well as in ICT, and related business services. 

• In anticipation of the growing demand for seasoned business professionals and executives the Programme aims at developing qualified graduates for employment in middle and top management positions in all sectors of the economy: private sector, public sector, NGOs, and for self-employment. There will also be a surge in demand for lecturers in business and related disciplines as many more universities may be needed to meet the growing manpower needs of industry.

Entry Requirements

An applicant seeking admission to an MBA degree programme must: 

a. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a Second Class Lower) or its equivalent in an appropriate field of study from a recognised University.

b. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the faculties/departments.

These may include relevant work experience, a written entrance examination and an interview.

c. An applicant who possesses a first degree in the Third Class Division or a Pass and who has at least three years’ work experience may also be considered for admission into the Taught Master’s degree Programme. Such applicants may be required to take preparatory courses and pass written examinations and an interview before being considered for admission.
