FASS HOLDS THIRD NEW YEAR SCHOOL

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) on Monday 28th February 2022 held its third edition of its New Year School at the New Senate Room on Miotso campus of the University. The event was designed to offer prayers and thanksgiving to God and also to honor deserving faculty and staff members.

The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Clara Korkor Fayorsey celebrated and encouraged staff and faculty who had done well in the past year and announced that in the 2020/2021, four (4) faculty members successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy Degrees (PhDs). The new PhD holders are Dr. Rosemary W. Kimani, Dr. Denise Duncan, Rev. Dr Aaron Adjei and Dr. Edmund Kwablah.

As part of the Dean’s Awards, Bella Souzey, Sedinam Dumevi, Radiya Sinare, Flora Addison, Samora Quashie, Sekina Agoe, Lordsdarlyn Nyeduala and Yaa Frimpomaa, all students from the Communication and Media Studies department, were honored for a good work done in raising high the of flag of Central University through theatre performance in Cape Coast and Accra during PANAFEST 2019. The award included a citation for each student.

Six former members of the  faculty, Prof. Anthony Panin, Mr. Edmund Carboo, Dr. Kwesi Quayson, Dr. Emmanuel Nukonu, Dr. Paul Agbedor and Rev. Mrs. Comfort Kokuma were also appreciated for their services to the Faculty and the University.

Additionally, the faculty officer, Mrs. Grace Asiedu, Mr. Kofi Korle and Ms. Linda Nuerkie Kablah were also recognized by the Dean for their hard work, diligence and dedication to the faculty duties.

The climax of the ceremony was the award of Prof. Justice G. Djokoto who had published sixteen (16) peer reviewed journal articles within the year.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bill Buenar Puplampu in his brief remarks, commended the Dean of FASS for the initiative and encouraged other faculties and schools in the univeristy to replicate the event in their schools. He also applauded the faculty for their hard work. He added that the University will continue to provide the needed support to help faculty and staff fully and effectively discharge their duties and thanked God for the gift of life. He also informed that Prof. Clara Fayorsey was from the 1st of March going to be the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research and she will be replaced by Dr. Ransford Antwi as the Ag. Dean of FASS.

Dr. Mariam Tsegah and Dr. Denise Duncan, Prof. Anthony Amaoh and Mr Tayili and Prof. Justice G Djokoto took their turn to present some research findings from their current works for the review of their colleagues.

Some members of the faculty led the gathering through praise and worship and intercessory prayers  for the University community and the nation.

The event was graced by Deans, Directors, Senior Members, Staff and some students.
