A SEARCH FOR AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND TWO DIRECTORS
The Council of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) hereby invites applications from interested and suitably
qualified applicants to fill the vacant positions for an Executive Director, Director, Professional Practice and
Director, Membership Services. The location of employment is the Engineering Centre, 13 Continental Road, Roman
Ridge, Accra, Ghana. The GhIE is a non-governmental organization which represents the interests of all Engineering
practitioners in Ghana.
JOB TITLES:
A. Executive Director
B. Director, Professional Practice
C. Director, Membership Services
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive of the Institution and works under the direction of the Council. The
Executive Director is responsible to the President and the Council for the implementation of policies of the
Institution and for the day-to-day management and administration, including financial operations of the Institution.
The contract term for this position is 4 years and applicants must not be more than 55 years old.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Science, postgraduate qualification in any engineering
discipline, project management, an MBA or law would be an added advantage. - Minimum of 15 years post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management position.
- Fellow or Senior Professional Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.
- Be declared medically fit by a registered medical practitioner.
- Proven good character and integrity.
- Good knowledge of Information and Communication Technology.
- Proven administrative experience at equivalent level in engineering related industry.
Responsibilities:
(i) The Executive Director shall be the head of the Secretariat as established under Article 4.2.2 of the GhIE
Constitution and shall be responsible for the administration of the Institution under the direction of the
Council. This responsibility includes:
(a) Implementation of decisions of the General Meetings of the Institution;
(b) Implementation of decisions and policies of the Council;
(c) Financial management of the Institution as outlined in Art. 15 of the GhIE Constitution; and
(d) Management of all other related operational issues including but not limited to the services related to
the meetings of the Institution as outlined in Art. 14 of the GhIE Constitution.
(ii) The Executive Director shall be responsible directly to the President and the Executive Committee, who will
be acting on behalf of the Council at all times.
(iii) The Executive Director must formally report to the Executive Committee, at each meeting, the activities of
the Secretariat and formally to the Council every quarter on the state of the Institution.
(iv) The Executive Director shall prepare annual reports to the Council. Upon approval by the Council, the annual
report shall be submitted to the Annual General Meeting.
(v) The Executive Director shall determine the staff and logistic requirements to meet the objectives set from
time to time by the Executive Committee (on behalf of the Council) for the consideration and approval of the
Council.

Qualifications: - Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering science. Postgraduate
qualification/training in any engineering discipline, project management and MBA or Law would be an
added advantage. - Applicants must have a minimum of 12 years of post-graduation engineering practice experience.
- Be a Fellow/Senior Professional Engineer of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.
- Applicants must be medically fit.

Responsibilities:
B. Director, Professional Practice
The Director shall provide leadership, decision making and strategic thinking for the development of the
professional practice. This responsibility includes: - Monitor and continuously assess Registered Companies and Educational Institutions.
- Monitor media and follow up on all alleged unprofessional or unethical practice.
- Follow up and execute all decisions of the Professional Practice and Ethics committee.
- Provide secretarial and administrative support for all Technical Divisions.
- Act as Secretary for the Professional Practice & Ethics Committee, Education and Training Committee and
Welfare Committee. - Provide annual training and education programmes for all engineering practitioners.
- Review all training programmes including evaluation by participants.
- Monitor and compile annual CPDs for all engineering practitioners.
- Initiate programmes and activities for selected committees for approval.
- Provide input for annual budget.
- Coordinating evening programmes and other GhIE related programmes.
C. Director, Membership Services
The Director shall provide leadership, decision making and strategic thinking for the development of GhIE’s
membership drive. This responsibility includes: - Responsible for issues relating to membership including ensuring that Engineering Practitioners working
in the country register with the institution. - Maintain an up-to-date register of members.
- Responsible for organizing and ensuring the integrity of all GhIE professional exams
- Provide input for annual budget.
- Coordinate evening programmes of the Membership Committee.
- Act as Secretary for Membership Committee.
- Organise outreach programmes for the Membership Committee
- Responsible for sourcing internship programmes for student and young engineering practitioners.
- Ensure member portal is updated with relevant information.
- Provide other related member service to GhIE members.
NB: These positions are open only to all members of the Ghana Institution of Engineering. Applicants must be
Engineers certified by the Ghana Institution of Engineering and registered with the Engineering Council. All selected
applicants must have demonstrable capacity to drive the vision and objectives of the Institution.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES
The salary and allowances are very attractive but based on measurable significant performance and outputs.

Senior Professional Engineer of not less than twenty (15) years post qualification experience and who should be in
a position to attest to the Applicant’s academic, professional and managerial abilities as well as moral character and
uprightness. Recommendation letters from the referees should be sent directly to the above address. Submission
