DR. SAVIOUR KWEKU ADJENTI-AG.
A Neurodevelopmental Anatomist by training from the Medical Faculties of the University of Ghana and University of Cape Town, South Africa. Prior to this cutting-edge anatomical education, Saviour has had a stint of higher education at the University of Lagos, Nigeria for some three years before transferring to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana to enroll and graduate with a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in the Biological Sciences. Saviour crowns his training in the chosen field of practice, with a Fellowship Certificate from the West African College of Morphologists (FWACMo).
Having benefited from trainings of these sort from these four world-class universities across three separate countries on the continent of Africa, prepared him for an unparalleled career in medical research and training. He started his professional career as a Demonstrator in the year 2003 in the Department of Anatomy, University of Ghana Medical School, shortly after graduating with an MPhil degree. Was subsequently appointed a Lecturer the following year in the same department. Between 2011 and 2014 while embarking on doctoral studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, he also doubled as a tutor in anatomy, lecturing both undergraduate Medical and Rehabilitation students. Having undertaken a multidisciplinary research in the areas of ultrasonography (imaging anatomy); physiotherapy, neurobiology/neurology, grossand microscopic anatomy, and having been mentored by three supervisors from the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University, South Africa, earned him a PhD degree in Clinical Anatomy and Cell Biology in 2014.
In September 2018, Saviour joined the Department of Physician Assistantship Studies at Central University, Miotso Campus as a Lecturer, having served in similar capacity at the University of Ghana Medical School for more than a decade. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2021 and appointed Head of Department same year. A position he had held until September 2022 when he was appointed as the Acting Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Research interests include: (i) understanding the neurobiology of musculoskeletal conditions: focusing on the structure and function of trunk musculature inchildren with cerebral palsy; (ii) exploring the potency of indigenous plant extracts as an alternative method of preservation of dead bodies and (iii) anatomical pedagogy – focusing on bridging the gap between theory and practice; packaging anatomy as a foundational tool in clinical practice. Saviour has eight peer-reviewed papers in highly rated journals. He is a member of the Anatomical Society of Ghana; Anatomical Society of Southern Africa and Pain Association of Ghana. He is also a reviewer to a number of local and international journals, an external examiner and Adjunct Lecturer to several universities across the country.
Attended Mawuli School, Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana. Below are some of his publications.
