Doing Business In Africa

Programme Overview

This programme introduces participants to the African landscape and is designed to develop participants understanding of the business environment – macro and micro – environments of developing economies in the African region for entrepreneurs and businesses looking to do business.

The programme will enable participants to:

  1. Identify the current diverse business environment of Africa.
  2. Understand, analyze, and apply the reality of Africa’s socio-economic boundaries and related challenges and opportunities to innovate solutions.
  3. Identify emerging business opportunities on the continent.
  4. Evaluate strategic choices for doing business in a chosen sector.
Programme Objective

The Programme will provide participants with the ability to:

  • Provide insight into the current diverse landscape of the African environment.
  • Understand the challenges and opportunities for businesses in Africa.
  • Explore the opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and impact on developing relevant business models.

    • Emerging/developing Africa.

  • Macroeconomic Environment (I)
    •  – Exploring the following frameworks: PEST, PESTEL and EPISTLE.

    • – Investigating competitive advantages of the regions.

  • Microeconomic Environment –
    • Perform a SWOT.

  • The African Consumer Market
    • The African millennial consumer.

    • Impact of innovation and technology for SMEs.

    • Infrastructure and Agriculture.

Facilitator

Nana Kwasi David Agyemang Duah

David Nana Kwasi Agyeman-Duah is currently a third-year Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Ghana Business School where he is pursuing a doctoral programme in public policy management.

He speaks two international languages (English and French) and two local languages (Twi and Ga). He has a diverse work and research background.

He also has a broad fivefold research interest area mostly centred around the issue of policy: They include but are not limited to the following: Health and Tax Policy, Agriculture and the Extractive Industry, Human Resource Development, African History, and Issues bordering on Chieftaincy and Traditional Authority.

He obtained a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in July 2017 and a BA in Economics and French (May 2012) both from the University of Ghana, Legon. Pope John Secondary School and Minor Seminary is where he completed his SHS education in May 2006.
