Established in 2017, the Department of Social Sciences is a vibrant academic community dedicated to understanding people, society, and the factors that influence human behaviour and development. Through teaching, research, and community engagement, the Department nurtures compassionate, curious, and impact-driven individuals committed to addressing contemporary social challenges.
The Department brings together the interconnected disciplines of Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work, providing students with a holistic understanding of individuals, groups, communities, and social institutions. Through these programmes, students develop critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and evidence-based problem-solving skills essential for professional practice and societal transformation.
In the 2022/2023 academic year, as part of the University’s rationalisation exercise, the MPhilGuidance and Counselling programme was placed under the Department following approval by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Subsequently, in 2025, the BA Guidance and Counselling and MA Guidance and Counselling programmes also received GTEC approval and were placed under the Department. These programmes are currently offered at the Christ Temple Campus.
Our programmes prepare graduates for careers in social services, counselling, community development, research, public policy, education, and related fields, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and positive social change.
