The Department of Communication and Media Studies seeks to foster students’ ability to express and communicate ideas, arguments, and insights analytically and creatively through traditional and emerging media technologies. For this reason, the curriculum incorporates the four elements of professional communication training, namely: theory, research, production processes, and internship. The department hopes that students will appreciate strategic communication and the hands-on approach to media content production, which will give them the necessary leverage in the country’s competitive communication and media market and elsewhere. The department runs undergraduate, master’s, and MPhil programmes.

PROGRAMMES

The programme seeks to:

  • produce students who are conversant with critical media and mass communication theory, and to imbibe them with the needed intellectual ability for efficient professional delivery
  • equip them with skills to navigate and use innovative technologies for the production and dissemination of content
  • build the critical capacity of students to engage in critical media analysis, to ensure  they have a good understanding of the impact of the media and their profession on   society
  • provide students with the skills needed to be effective leaders in the provision of media and communication services
  • build a reputation of unparalleled ethical standards in their use of the media
  • inculcate Christian values and principles of faith, integrity, and excellence among the students
