Counselling and Career Services Directorate Hosts Internship Orientation for Students

The Counselling and Career Services Directorate recently organized an orientation for Levels 200 and 300 students, focusing on the importance and preparation for internships. Held on June 12th at the Trinity Hall, Miotso Campus, the event saw an impressive turnout, with over 500 students in attendance. Students from the Miotso and Christ Temple campuses attended in person while those on Kumasi campus joined virtually.

The orientation emphasized the crucial role internships play in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice. Speaking at the event, the Ag. Director for the Counselling and Career Services, Mrs. Stella Etse highlighted that internships not only prepare students for the world of work but also significantly enhance their academic studies.

The agenda included insightful presentations on various topics. Mrs. Rosaline Dorvison, a counsellor and coordinator of Counselling Services, delivered a session on “Preparing for Internship: Ethics and Professionalism,” guiding students on maintaining high standards during their internships. Mr. Evans Adu-Gyamfi from the Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Directorate presented “What You Must Know About CU – Past and Present and CU Accredited Programmes,” providing an overview of the institution’s history and its recognized programs.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Frank Adotey Addo, an alumnus and the Country Head of Commercial Banking at FirstBank Ghana. He shared his journey and success story, inspiring students to make the most of their internship opportunities. In a significant boost to the program, FirstBank Ghana announced nine internship slots for students during the 2023/2024 long vacation, demonstrating the strong ties between the university and the industry.

With 502 registered participants, the event underscored the university’s commitment to equipping students with the necessary tools and experiences to thrive in their future careers. The orientation successfully laid the groundwork for students to embark on their internship journeys, ready to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings.
