ABOUT CDPE
Welcome to the Centre for Distance and Professional Education (CDPE), formerly known as the Centre for Open and Distance Education (CODE). CDPE is one of the fastest-growing Academic Units at the University. The Centre was established in 2012 with a vision to expand access to quality tertiary and professional education across Ghana and the world.
The Centre for Distance and Professional Education (CDPE) seeks to provide and make distance and professional education accessible to everyone. As an approved center by Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE), UK, CDPE offers various ATHE diploma programmes at various levels. In addition to the ATHE programmes, the Centre also offers ICM-UK programs, Certificate, Short Courses, Nursing Access Course and Mature Access Course.
CDPE has received accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to run three (3) programmes namely:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Banking and Finance
- Bachelor of Science in Administration, Human Resource Management option
- Bachelor of Science in Administration, Marketing option
The Centre runs the following programmes:

- ICM-UK programmes
- Mature Entrance Examination
- WASSCE Remedial programmes
ATHE PROGRAMMES
Gaining a straight admission into a university of choice in Ghana is becoming very difficult for most SHS graduates as competition for available spots gets keener and the entry requirements get tighter. The ATHE Level 3 Diplomas bridge this gap and make it easier for SHS leavers to access university education. The Pre-University Access Programme provides pathways for learners to pursue various undergraduate programmes in Business, Information Technology, Health and Social Care, Law etc. at Central University (CU) and other institutions of higher learning both locally and globally. ATHE Level 3 Diplomas are regulated and awarded by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) in UK and fully accredited in Ghana by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

Progression Routes
Qualified learners can pursue various undergraduate programmes in Business, Health, Arts and Social Science, Information Technology (IT), Law at Central University and over 50 leading Universities in the UK.

THE INSTITUTE OF COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT (ICM-UK)
This is a professional programme regulated and awarded by the Institute of Commercial Management (UK) and accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC), Ghana. The Centre for Distance and Professional Education (CDPE), Central University, is an approved centre for learning and preparing students for the ICM professional examinations. This programme prepares commercial and business development staff for successful professional careers.

CU/ICM-UK Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following admissions requirements to qualify for the CU/ICM-UK Certificate or Diploma programme.
- WASSCE: Passes in three Core Subjects and three elective subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, or its equivalent (SSSCE, O-Level, A-Level, etc.)
- A suitable BTEC National Award
- Applicant must be at least 20 years old at the time of applying for the programme
- A minimum of 2 years’ work experience is required
CU/ICM Progression Routes
The CU/ICM provide pathways for students to pursue various non-science undergraduate and master’s programs at Central University’s Central Business School (CBS), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Faculty of Law, School of Engineering and Technology etc., starting from Level 200.
MATURE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
The mature entrance examinations provide an opportunity for individuals who are 25 years and above to be considered for admission into the University without the rigorous evaluation process often associated with the normal application process. Applicants who meet the minimum requirement will undergo five (5) weeks of tuition to prepare them to take an entrance exam in Basic Mathematics, English Language, and Logic to be admitted into the university. Prospective applicants are required to pass all three (3) subjects and go through a successful interview session to gain admission. Mature applicants are placed at Level 100.

Entry Requirements
Mature applicants are required to meet the following minimum entry requirements to gain admission.
- Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of application
- Show proof of age using a Birth Certificate or any other legitimate proof of birth
- Pass all three (3) subjects in the Mature Entrance Examinations
Progression Routes
Mature applicants who meet all the entry requirements will be allowed to pursue the following programmes at Central Business School (CBS) and Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS), and The School of Theology and Education, Central University (CU), starting at Level 100.

Processes
- Applicants admitted into the course should be 25 years or above.
- Applicants are tutored in English, Basic Mathematics and Aptitude Test for 6 weeks.
- Applicants write exams in English, Basic Mathematics and Aptitude Test.
- Successful candidates apply and are admitted to level 100-degree programmes in Central Business School, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Architecture, and the Department of Information Technology.
