On Monday, 15th December 2025, Mr. Daniel Offei, lecturer at the Department of Economics & Environmental Studies, presented at the QAR-Net Care (Quantitative Analysis and Research Network in Care) Conference, hosted by the Centre for Care at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.

This was a Follow-up on his presentation of a research paper at the 7th Transforming Care Conference held at the University of Helsinki, Finland, in June 2025.
The conference, themed “Care and Inequality: Bridging Research and Practice,” brought together leading international scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to examine inequalities in caregiving and long-term care systems across different global contexts. The event provided a unique platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on care, ageing, labour markets, and social policy.
Mr. Offei’s presentation contributed a much-needed Global South perspective, focusing on unorganized caregivers in Ghana who continue to play a critical yet undervalued role in long-term care provision. The study examined caregivers’ willingness to financially outsource their most burdensome care tasks and highlighted how economic capacity, caregiving intensity, and deeply rooted cultural norms shape these decisions.

The findings generated strong engagement from participants and underscored important policy implications for the design of equitable and culturally responsive long-term care systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The presentation aligned closely with the Centre for Care’s mission to advance rigorous, policy-relevant research that connects lived experiences of care with evidence-based solutions.
This achievement highlights Central University’s commitment to high-quality research, international collaboration, and thought leadership in care and social policy. We congratulate Mr. Daniel Offei for representing Ghana and the University at this high-profile global academic forum.
