In a significant development, the Council of Central University, in its meeting held on August 15, 2023, approved the establishment of two separate schools emerging from the School of Medical and Health Sciences (SMHS). Effective September 1, 2023, the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) and the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SNM) came into effect. This strategic decision is driven by a clear vision to maximize the potential of our academic programs by providing dedicated focus to each field.
School of Medical Sciences (SMS) will continue to oversee the Physician Assistantship and Public Health programs, maintaining its leadership in medical education, research, and innovation.
School of Nursing and Midwifery (SNM) will become the new home for the Nursing program, reinforcing the CU’s commitment to excellence in nursing education and research.
To ensure a smooth transition, existing SMHS staff and students will be assigned to the new schools based on their respective disciplines.
These new additions bring the number of schools and faculties in the university so far to 9.
