Central University joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, with a vibrant and purpose-driven event held at the Christ Temple Campus in Accra. The event under the theme “Give to Gain,” brought together distinguished leaders, students, faculty, alumni, and invited guests for an evening of reflection, empowerment, mentorship, and networking.

Observed worldwide since the early 20th century, International Women’s Day continues to serve as a powerful platform to celebrate the achievements of women, raise awareness about gender equality, and inspire collective action toward a more inclusive society. The event at Central University reflected these ideals by encouraging participants to embrace generosity—through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and service—as a pathway to personal and societal advancement.

The programme was chaired by the Pro-Chancellor of Central University, Rev. Dr. Joyce R. Aryee, who delivered brief but profound remarks underscoring the importance of service, generosity, and intentional leadership. She noted that the principle of “Give to Gain” reflects the transformative impact of investing time, knowledge, and resources in others, particularly in empowering the next generation of women leaders.

Delivering the welcome address, the University Registrar, Mrs. Lily Martina Yeboah Nutakor, warmly received guests and emphasised the University’s commitment to nurturing leadership, mentorship, and academic excellence among students. She encouraged participants—especially students—to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from accomplished professionals present at the event.

The keynote address was delivered by Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana. In her inspiring presentation, she shared reflections on leadership, resilience, and the power of giving. She encouraged participants to view generosity not only as financial contribution but also as the willingness to share time, knowledge, opportunities, and encouragement. Her leadership journey and practical insights resonated strongly with attendees, particularly students who expressed admiration for her career path and the wisdom she shared.

The celebration was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of Central University, Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah, and the Chair of the University Council, Mrs. Florence Hutchful, alongside members of the University community and invited stakeholders from industry.

A major highlight of the evening was an engaging Panel Discussion featuring accomplished women professionals who explored practical ways individuals can give back through mentorship, collaboration, and leadership. The panelists included Emma Adwoa Appiah Ose-Duah, Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Zoomlion Ghana Limited; Marian Amartey, Head of Women’s Banking at Stanbic Bank Ghana; Princess Cobbina, CU SRC Women’s Commissioner and Daniella Omenyo of MTN Ghana was the Moderator for the session.

The discussion encouraged participants to reflect on how acts of generosity—whether through mentorship, professional guidance, or knowledge sharing—can open doors to meaningful growth and long-term impact.

Another significant highlight was the Speed Mentoring Session, where guest mentors from corporate Ghana, government ministries and agencies, and Central University alumni engaged directly with students in focused, interactive conversations. The session provided a dynamic platform for students to gain career insights, seek guidance, and build valuable professional connections. Panelists and women leaders from Central University also joined the mentoring session, further enriching the experience.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Stanbic Bank Ghana and Telecel Ghana. It was organised in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) and the Central University Students’ Representative Council.

Through this celebration, Central University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering leadership, empowering women, and promoting a culture of mentorship and collaboration that contributes to building a more equitable and inclusive society. The 2026 International Women’s Day event not only celebrated the achievements of women but also inspired the University community to embrace the transformative principle of giving as a pathway to growth, opportunity, and impact.
