Central University recently held a strategic meeting with representatives from the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in Canada to explore potential international partnerships. Representing UFV were Dr. David McGuire, Associate Vice President, International, UFV and Dr. Edward Akuffo, Associate Professor, Department Head, Political Science at UFV.
The brief meeting chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Abenney-Mickson, focused on enhancing academic research, expanding student mobility, and developing new programs in areas such as environmental engineering and public health. Both institutions expressed a strong commitment to fostering global education and creating opportunities for faculty and student exchanges. The meeting also addressed challenges in internationalization, such as financial constraints and credit transfer issues, while emphasizing the need for increased student awareness of global opportunities.
The discussions concluded with a consensus on the benefits of international collaboration, with both universities agreeing to align new initiatives with Central University’s mission of nurturing transformational leaders. Key action points included exploring research collaborations, expanding academic programs, and improving processes to facilitate smoother student exchanges. The meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening Central University’s global connections and enhancing its educational offerings.
Looking ahead, the universities plan to initiate discussions on specific research collaborations and begin developing student mobility programs. Central University will also work on expanding its academic offerings and aligning course content with partner institutions to facilitate credit transfers. Increased efforts will be made to raise awareness among students about the opportunities available through these international partnerships, setting the stage for future growth and collaboration coordinated by the International Programs Office under the leadership of Dr. Kingsford Kissi Mireku.
Prior to the meeting, the UFV delegation toured the CU campus to interact with some international students and officers of Central University.
