Program: BSc In BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (ACCOUNTING OPTION)

The Bachelor of Science in Administration [Accounting option] aims at producing graduates of high integrity and with high professional ethics. The curriculum runs in the Department of Accounting, therefore, targets the training of graduates who would exhibit high theoretical and practical competencies in the field of Accounting.

Key Expected Outcomes

Having completed this programme, students are expected to have the capacity to influence and contribute to private and public Accounting firms locally and internationally. Graduates are also prepared to meet the requirements for the professional qualifications within the specialized areas; namely the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) and Chartered Institute of Taxation, and Chartered Institute of Bankers (Ghana) respectively. This enables graduates of the programme to be both academically and professionally competent in the field of Accounting.

Key Objectives

• To inculcate the practice of good and efficient accounting practices in students;

• To efficiently demonstrate to students the understanding of ethics in accounting sector and how to contribute significantly to the progress of organisations (public or private);

• To enable students gain a thorough understanding of accounting operations both locally and  

    internationally;

• To gain the understanding of how to effectively and efficiently apply principles in institutions 

   and other businesses;

• To enable students appreciate contemporary and innovative concepts, theories and accounting

   software to enable them be abreast with the changing trends in the Accounting sector.

Careers

Following that Accounting is a necessary part of business activities; our graduates are employable to all sectors of the economy, both private and public sectors; financial, agricultural, manufacturing, educational, health, trading, Banking, Insurance, among other sectors. 

Graduates are also well equipped as entrepreneurs to establish their own companies.

Entry Requirements

Senior Secondary School Certificate: Passes in core English, core Mathematics, core Science and three elective subjects, with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or with an aggregate score of 36 or better in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).All passes must be at least grade D (SSSCE) or grade C6 (WASSCE) or better.

General Certificate of Education: An applicant must have at least credit-level passes in 5 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) at the GCE Ordinary Level and at least 2 passes at the

GCE Advanced Level. One of the advanced level passes must be grade ‘D’ or better.

A pass in General Paper must also be obtained. 

Professional Qualifications: Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) with at least 3 Credits and 2 passes awarded by the Technical Examination Unit of GES. Other qualifications such as Private Secretary,

Bilingual Secretaryship.

Mature Student’s Entry Requirement: Applicants without the relevant formal academic qualifications may be considered for admission if they are above 25 years old and have demonstrable relevant professional experience. Applicants will also be required to pass an entrance examination and/or an interview.
