Programme aims, objectives and outcomes
The programme aims to produce high-quality graduates to meet the growing demand for analysts in several sectors of the economy and to enhance research capacities in finance and economics to meet the demands of an evolving society, as well as fulfilling the strategic goals of the institution in line with its vision and the developmental agenda of the nation.
Objectives
The main objectives of the programme are the following:
- Nurture students in Finance and Economics to be of international standard.
- Produce graduates with the ability and requisite skills required for finance, business and economic analysis and decision-making.
- Train students with the tools of research to apply them in Finance, Economics and related fields.
- Provide the foundations for graduates to pursue higher degrees in Finance and Economics, and related areas.
Upon completion of a B.Sc. programme in Finance with Economics, graduates would acquire competencies suitable in several careers including Financial and Economic Analysts, Researchers, Diplomats, Public Servants, Bankers, Entrepreneurs, Consultants, Finance and Administrative Managers.
Admission requirements
General University Admission Requirement: The minimum admission requirements of Central University (CU) apply. To enter the programme, applicants must meet the following admission requirements:
- West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
- Credit passes(A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
- Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE).
- Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Levels.
- Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and Arts subject (for science students).
- Continuing Students
- Level 200 and 300 students who have read Finance and/ or Economics may be admitted to Level 300 of the Finance with Economics programme. Level 100 and 200 students from the Business School or Social Science with a background in Finance and/or Economics will be admitted into the Finance with Economics programme at levels 200 and 300, respectively
- ATHE Business Administration or Economics Program
- Level 3 graduates from the ATHE programme will be admitted to level 100 of the Finance with Economics programmes.
- HND graduates from any business-related and economics will be admitted into level 200 of the Finance with Economics Programme
- University Diploma business graduates will be admitted into level 200 of the finance with economics programme
- Mature Applicant.
- The Applicants must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the entrance examination into the programme. A certified copy of the birth certificate is required. The date of issue the birth certificate should not be less than five (5) years from the date of the completion of the admission form. – The applicant must have GCE O’ Level or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics. Applicants who do not have the required qualifications will take a special entrance exam. – The Applicant must write the Mature students’ entrance examination, which consists of a general paper for all applicants and two papers in the area(s) of specialisation desired.
- Foreign Applicants:
- To be considered for admission, applicants must have qualifications equivalent to the above.
- Their results must also be translated into English, and they should be able to read and write in English. Prospective foreign applicants must also note that their certificates will be sent to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for evaluation and verification.
