The BSc. Economics with Information Technology is a single-major programme in which Economics serves as the major field and Information Technology as the minor component. The programme is relevant in providing theoretical and digital skills to graduates in the social and applied sciences. This is certainly important in a modern digital world where information technology is a key driver in socio-economic interactions. In a developing economy such as Ghana, this is critical for rapid economic growth and development
There is a growing need in a modern digitalised world for specialists in data science, programming and the creation of algorithms for applications in business and economic policymaking. Students reading a combined major in Economics and Information Technology will have strong digital and analytical skills to undertake advanced data analysis and economic modelling.
Aims of the Programme
The aims of the programme are to:

The main objectives of the programme are the following:
- Explain core economic principles (microeconomics and macroeconomics) and their relevance to real-world issues.
- Apply quantitative and statistical techniques using software tools (e.g., Excel, Stata, Python, R) to analyse economic and financial data.
- Utilise information technology effectively in modelling, analysis, and communication of economic information.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in interdisciplinary contexts involving both economics and computing.

Admission requirements
The minimum admission requirements of Central University (CU) apply. To enter the programme, applicants must meet the following admission requirements:
- West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
- Credit passes(A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, and Mathematics, plus three (3) electives in subjects such as Further Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Physics, Chemistry, Geography and History.
- Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE).
- Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, and Mathematics, plus three (3) electives in subjects such as Further Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Physics, Chemistry, Geography and History.
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Levels.
- Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and Arts subject (for science students).
- Higher National Diploma (HND) Applicants
- Applicants who hold an HND shall be admitted into the programme at Level 200 or 300, depending on the assessment of their diplomas in relation to the programme.
- Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) Applicants
- ATHE Level 3 holders will be admitted into the programme at Level 100.
- Mature Applicants
- The applicants must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the examination. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of birth certificate should not be less than five (5) years from the date of the completion of the admission form.
- The applicant must have GCE O-Level or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics. Applicants who do not have the required qualifications will take a Special Entrance Examination.
- The applicant must write the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination, which consist of a general paper for all applicants and two papers in the area(s) of specialization desired.
- Foreign Applicants
- Applicants must have qualifications equivalent to those stated above. Their results and certificates must be translated into English, and they must demonstrate the ability to read and write in English.
- Prospective international applicants must also note that their certificates will be submitted to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for evaluation and verification.
