Akua Frema Barfour is a lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Central University. She holds an MPhil degree in Pharmacognosy from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a B. Pharm degree from Central University.
It is her career objective to become a leader in research into antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents from natural sources and contribute innovative solutions to healthcare practitioners which impact positively on the quality of life of patients. Also to be able to impact the knowledge attained to fellow colleagues and students through teaching.
Her research interests lie in the discovery of bioactive molecules from indigenous medicinal plants for drug development. Her previous works have established the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant activity of several Ghanaian medicinal plants. Her current research focuses on prospecting medicinal plant for diabetic wounds and sickle cell disease. Other aspects of her research focus on the establishment of standard parameters for the quality control of herbal medicines.
She is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Lady Pharmacist Association Ghana and the Academia, Social and Research Pharmacist Association of Ghana
