DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING

About the programme:

The two-year Diploma in Accounting is designed to produce job-ready accounting support professionals who can reduce youth unemployment and meet Ghana’s demand for skilled finance talent. With Ghana’s push toward e-tax, e-payroll, and digital financial reporting, graduates will be trained in accounting software, Excel, and GRA e-filing portals to modernise business operations. The diploma also provides graduates with the foundational skills to progress to ICAG, ACCA, HND, or degree programmes. This Diploma in Accounting integrates financial accounting, practical reporting skills, IT, and applied financial management within a single curriculum. The programme emphasises hands-on learning through real business scenarios, enabling students to understand how accounting supports decision-making in organisations.

Objectives

The Diploma in Accounting aims to equip graduates with the ability to:

  • Apply fundamental accounting principles and standards in recording, classifying, and summarising financial transactions in organisational contexts.
  • Prepare and interpret basic financial statements to support informed decision-making in businesses and public institutions.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records using appropriate accounting procedures and digital accounting tools.
  • Analyse financial data to support planning, budgeting, and control functions within organisations.
  • Apply ethical principles and professional standards in financial reporting and accounting practices.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Courses Include:

Computerised Accounting; Principles of Financial Accounting; Taxation; Auditing and Internal Review; Management Accounting; Digital Literacy and Analytical Thinking; Public Sector Accounting; Entrepreneurship Development; and Cost Accounting.

Admission Requirements

  1. SSSCE/GBCE
    • Applicants must have at least credit passes A-D in three core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics (core) and integrated Science/Social Studies, in addition to credit passes in any two elective subjects for applicants’ areas of specialisation.
  2. WASSCE
    • Applicant must have a grade (A1-D7) in three core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics (core) and integrated Science/Social Studies, in addition to credit passes(A1-D6) in any two elective subjects, which must be relevant to the applicant’s area of specialisation.
  3. Admissions are also granted to mature students through mature entry exams (in English Language, Mathematics & Aptitude test) to applicants who are 25 years or more. In lieu of such exams, applicants must show proof of credit passes in English and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognised standard High School level examinations.

Progressions:

Graduates with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) above 2.50 would progress to the Level 300 Bachelor of Science Degree with Accounting Option
