
Central University has achieved another significant milestone in its commitment to academic excellence and quality engineering education, following the award of an Engineering Educational Unit Certificate by the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE).
The certificate was officially presented to a delegation from the University during a visit to the Ghana Institution of Engineering on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026. The delegation comprised Dr. Nana Baa Gyan, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Dr. Daniel Anobaah Ankrah, Head of the Civil Engineering Department; Dr. Eunice Adwoa Adu-Darko, Director of the Centre for Distance and Professional Education (CDPE); and Dr. Victor Owusu, Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department.

The Engineering Educational Unit Certificate is awarded to tertiary institutions that register with GhIE for support in offering engineering programmes in Ghana. It serves as formal recognition that an institution has met the standards and requirements established by the Institution for the delivery of engineering education and professional training.

The certification has become an important requirement for universities seeking the support of GhIE to run engineering programmes and reflects a commitment to maintaining high standards of engineering education, professional ethics, and industry relevance.
Speaking during the presentation, representatives of Central University expressed their appreciation to the Ghana Institution of Engineering for its continued dedication to promoting excellence in engineering education and professional practice across the country. They reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing students with quality education that aligns with national and international standards.

The Ghana Institution of Engineering reiterated its commitment to collaborating with academic institutions, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders to strengthen engineering education and facilitate the development of competent engineering professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.
The award further underscores Central University’s growing reputation as a leading institution in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education among private universities in Ghana. Through its School of Engineering and Technology, the University continues to invest in programmes that equip students with the knowledge, practical skills, and innovative mindset required to address contemporary engineering challenges and emerging opportunities in industry and technology.

Over its 28-year history, Central University has graduated more than 34,203 students across diverse disciplines, including Business and Applied Sciences. The University currently enrols over 8,000 undergraduate students in 45 academic programmes, including the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering programme, which is designed to prepare graduates for careers in engineering, infrastructure development, innovation, and technological advancement.
