The Master of Public Health programme of the Central University is designed to produce health professionals who will be recognised for their dedicated service and competence in promoting healthy populations and in providing quality health care to persons and communities. The programme seeks to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to health promotion, disease prevention, and community development based on an empowerment agenda within the context of deprived and vulnerable communities in the local population of the Greater Accra Region, in particular and Ghana as a whole.
Specific curricula within the programme would adopt a broad-based, multidisciplinary approach that delivers excellent and innovative teaching and research, producing graduates equipped with the necessary tools to provide health-related leadership to society. Ultimately, the Master of Public Health programme of Central University seeks to be considered as one of the leading Public Health training centres in Ghana and among the top ten Global Health institutions of excellence in West Africa.
Upon graduation, students would be adequately equipped to practice as allied health professionals in healthcare, research, regulatory, and industry settings, both locally and internationally.
Goals and Objectives of the Programme
The MPH programme seeks to produce post-graduate students with an understanding and proven competencies necessary to achieve Public Health outcomes. The overarching goal is to provide quality post-graduate education with a community perspective on health, to equip students with knowledge and competencies on emerging trends in Public Health principles and practices, and to make visible positive impacts on the health of local populations in Ghana.
The following are the specific objectives.
- To offer a curriculum that produces graduates equipped with knowledge and competencies in Public Health practice
- To help develop and implement sustainable Public Health interventions to improve the health of populations
- To apply effective leadership in public health practice using ethically sound principles to promote Community Health
- To develop and expand learning opportunities and competencies through elective courses, field experience, research, and dissemination
Target Groups
Healthcare professionals in the MoH/GHS, Environmental and Development officers in the Ministries of Science, Environment, Sanitation, etc., Public Health Nutritionists, Allied Health Professionals, Biomedical Scientists, Psychologists, etc., Public Health researchers in medical, industrial, pharmaceutical, and food and nutrition-related research institutions, e.g., NMIMR, CSIR, KCCR, etc.

Entry Requirements
Applicants with professional degrees in the health sciences, such as BPH, PA, Nursing, MBChB, B. Pharm, PharmD, BVM, DVM, or a Bachelor’s degree in Environment and Development Studies, Allied Health Sciences, Nutrition, Dietetics, or in Arts, and Social Sciences-related disciplines from any recognised University in Ghana or abroad are qualified to apply.
