Final-year Level 400 students of the Physician Assistantship programme at Central University are currently undertaking their end-of-first-semester final practical examinations, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), at the University’s Hospital facility on the Miotso Campus.

The rigorous clinical assessment forms a critical component of the students’ professional training and serves as a comprehensive evaluation of their practical competencies, clinical reasoning, communication skills, and preparedness for real-world healthcare delivery. The examinations are being conducted under the supervision of experienced external examiners, ensuring objectivity, adherence to professional standards, and alignment with national clinical training expectations.

The OSCE exercise also represents a significant milestone for the University, as it marks the conclusion of academic activities for the Physician Assistantship programme on campus. The development comes at a transitional moment in the institution’s medical education journey, as the University prepares to expand its healthcare training portfolio with the introduction of a more comprehensive Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme.

The use of the University’s soon-to-be-operational Hospital for the practical examinations highlights the institution’s continued commitment to strengthening medical and clinical education through enhanced infrastructure, practical training opportunities, and industry-standard learning environments. The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare education, clinical practice, and community health services when fully operational.

Throughout the examination process, students demonstrated a high level of professionalism, competence, and commitment as they navigated various simulated clinical scenarios designed to test their diagnostic abilities, patient interaction skills, emergency response techniques, and overall clinical proficiency.

Following the completion of the examinations this week, the students are expected to return to their respective affiliated training hospitals from June 1, 2026, for a final five-month intensive clinical preparation period. This final phase of training is aimed at further sharpening their practical experience and readiness ahead of their external professional examinations and eventual graduation.

The University remains committed to producing highly skilled, ethical, and service-oriented healthcare professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s healthcare system and beyond. The successful conduct of the OSCE examinations reflects the dedication of faculty, clinical supervisors, external assessors, and students toward maintaining excellence in healthcare education and professional training.

As the Physician Assistantship students prepare for the final stage of their academic and professional journey, the University celebrates their resilience, dedication, and progress toward becoming competent healthcare practitioners ready to make a positive impact in their communities and the wider healthcare sector.
