The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Central University has officially launched its Faculty Week celebrations with the Dean’s List of Excellence Awards Ceremony, recognising students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

The event brought together high-performing students, faculty, and administrators in an atmosphere marked by pride and inspiration. It served as a platform to honour students who attained exceptional Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPAs), reinforcing the University’s commitment to academic excellence as a cornerstone of its educational mission.

Established three years ago, the Dean’s List is a prestigious recognition designed to celebrate the highest academic attainments within each School or Faculty. Beyond recognition, the initiative aims to motivate and reward students who consistently demonstrate academic diligence and excellence.

Students who make the Dean’s List benefit from a range of opportunities, including publication of their names on the University’s website, support from Deans and Heads of Department in securing internship or attachment placements, and access to both internal and industry mentorship. Awardees are also acknowledged during graduation ceremonies, while the overall best-performing students across Faculties receive a special graduation gift from the Vice-Chancellor.

Delivering the keynote address, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ransford Antwi, commended the awardees for their discipline, resilience, and intellectual commitment. He noted that their achievements not only reflect personal dedication but also enhance the reputation of the Faculty.

“The Dean’s List is more than just a collection of names; it is a testament to the discipline and focus of our students. These honourees represent the top tier of their classes, balancing intensive coursework and practical projects,” he stated.

Dr. Antwi further encouraged the broader student body to draw inspiration from the awardees, emphasising that academic excellence is attainable through consistency, determination, and focus.

Also addressing the gathering, the Director of Academic and Student Services, Mrs. Ruth Afful, engaged students on key academic concerns and encouraged sustained dialogue between students and the University’s administration to enhance the overall student experience.

Notably, the Department of Psychology recorded the highest number of awardees, reflecting strong academic performance across multiple levels.
