MASTER OF ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Aims of the Programme:
The programme aims to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and requisite attitude in policy management and leadership administration in the corporate sector as well as the civil and public services and beyond.
The Master of Arts in Development Policy is a 12-month programme comprising rigorous course work and a dissertation component. It is available to all students who have attained a good first degree in any discipline and wish to enhance their knowledge on social and development policy. It will be hosted within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Objectives of the Programme
The programme seeks to enhance in students, requisite techniques, needed to enable them to undertake a rigorous analysis of targets and achievement of development policies, with special reference to Ghana. Students will be exposed to classical and contemporary theories of development in relation to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Agenda 2063, Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development (AADPD) and other contemporary or emerging social policies.
Specific objectives to be achieved through the programme include the following:
- Development and application of research techniques to analysis of data.
- Explore in-depth various international consensuses for enhancing life on earth.
- Critically analyse the sustainability of global development initiatives.
- Construct a link among various development policy interventions.
- Identify drivers and possible mechanisms to address global poverty and wealth creation.
- Assess the roles of international financial institutions in alleviating poverty in developing countries.
Admission Requirements for MA Programme
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (second class lower or better) or its equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university and must be proficient in English Language. Applicants who earned their degrees using other languages shall be required to take basic and remedial English. University graduates with a post-graduate certificate or diploma in development policy will have an added advantage. In the process of admission, exemptions will be given, and credit transfers allowed for any of the courses being offered if the applicant has taken a similar course in any recognized university. The student must have attained a minimum grade of B or its equivalent in the course to qualify for exemption.

This course is suitable for participants such as Diplomats, Local Government Staff, Politicians, Journalists, Consultants, Civil Society Advocates, Law Enforcement Agents and Development Planners.
