The Director of the Information and Communication Technology Directorate (ICTD), Rev. Gustave Amuzu, together with staff of the ICT Directorate, participated in the Maiden Tech Law Conference 2026, organised by the Association of IT Law Professionals (AITLAP), on Thursday, 29th January 2026. The event was held at the University of Ghana Law Auditorium.

The conference, themed “Ghana’s Digital Transformation: An Era for IT Lawyers and Tech Innovators,” brought together legal practitioners, technology professionals, policymakers, academics, and industry leaders to examine the evolving intersection between technology, innovation, and the law. It provided a platform for in-depth discussions on policy direction, regulatory frameworks, and emerging trends shaping Ghana’s digital ecosystem.
Key thematic areas addressed during the conference included Artificial Intelligence and legal regulation, with participants unpacking the implications of AI for law and governance, alongside perspectives from industry leaders and members of the judiciary. Discussions also focused on fintech and policy, particularly the role of regulatory sandboxes in fostering innovation while managing risks within the digital finance space. Other sessions explored Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda, with emphasis on building a secure, inclusive, and sustainable digital economy, as well as the impact of digital transformation on legal education and institutional strengthening.
A major highlight of the event was the official launch of the Association of IT Law Professionals (AITLAP) Africa. The Association seeks to bridge the gap between technology and the legal profession by promoting dialogue, capacity building, and collaboration among IT lawyers, technologists, regulators, and innovators across Africa.
The participation of the ICT Directorate underscores the University’s commitment to engaging with national and global conversations on digital transformation, emerging technologies, and regulatory innovation, in line with its mandate to support technology-driven development and knowledge advancement.
