JOB PURPOSE:The Chief Project Officer (CPO) will lead the project management function across the organization, overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of key initiatives. The CPO ensures that all projects align with the strategic objectives of the organization while maximizing efficiency, effectiveness, and value. This role requires strong leadership, project management expertise, and the ability to drive results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical/Operations dutiesDevelop and implement project management strategies that align with the organization’s strategic objectives.Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of high-priority projects across multiple departments or business units.Establish and monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery within scope.Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and reporting structures, ensuring transparency and effective communication with stakeholders.Collaborate with senior leadership to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and resolve project-related issues.Establish and enforce project governance frameworks, ensuring best practices in project execution and risk management.Oversee the performance of project management teams, providing guidance and support in problem-solving, decision-making, and risk mitigation.Ensure that all projects meet agreed-upon quality standards, deadlines, and financial targets.Monitor and evaluate project progress, taking corrective actions as needed to ensure successful outcomes.Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective project delivery.Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the project management function, ensuring the adoption of industry best practices and innovative approaches.

KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURESProject Delivery Success Rate:Percentage of projects delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.Target: ≥ 90% of projects delivered according to the agreed-upon criteria.Strategic Alignment:Percentage of projects that align with the organization’s strategic objectives.Target: ≥ 95% of projects support key strategic goals and business priorities.Resource Utilization Efficiency:Effectiveness of resource allocation (people, budget, technology) in delivering projects.Target: ≥ 85% of resources used efficiently without major bottlenecks or wastage.Stakeholder Satisfaction:Satisfaction levels of internal and external stakeholders involved in or impacted by projects (measured through surveys or feedback).Target: ≥ 90% satisfaction rate from key stakeholders (senior management, department heads, external partners).Risk Management and Mitigation:Number of projects with identified and managed risks (e.g., early identification and resolution of critical issues).Target: ≥ 95% of projects with risks effectively identified and mitigated in the planning and execution phases.Project Profitability and Budget Adherence:Percentage of projects delivered within budget, with minimal financial deviations.Target: ≤ 5% variance in budget across all projects.Quality of Project Outcomes:Percentage of projects meeting or exceeding quality standards and project specifications.Target: ≥ 95% of projects achieve agreed-upon quality standards.Team Performance and Development:Employee engagement and performance within the project management teams (measured through performance reviews and feedback).Target: ≥ 85% of project team members meet or exceed performance expectations.Continuous Improvement Initiatives:Number of process improvements or best practices implemented to enhance project management effectiveness.Target: ≥ 3 new process improvements or best practice initiatives annually.Project Innovation and Value Addition:Number of projects that introduce innovative solutions, products, or business processes.Target: ≥ 25% of projects introducing new or enhanced ways of doing business.

COMPETENCIES  Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead cross-functional teams.Excellent project management skills, including proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).Ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects and ensure alignment with strategic business objectives.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leaders, stakeholders, and team members.Proficient in risk management, resource management, and budget management.Results-oriented, with a focus on achieving business outcomes while maintaining project quality.Problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a strong analytical mindset.Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively.
 QualificationBachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).Professional certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is highly desirable.At least 7 years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.Strong understanding of organizational strategy, business processes, and project management best practices.Experience managing projects in a complex and dynamic environment.
