Job Summary:
The Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the tax compliance and planning functions of the organization. This role involves ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations, optimizing the company’s tax position, and providing strategic tax advice to senior management. The Tax Manager will also lead a team of tax professionals and work closely with other departments to ensure that tax considerations are integrated into business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns (corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, etc.) in accordance with Ghanaian tax laws.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the organization.
- Prepare and review tax provisions and ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards.
Tax Planning and Strategy:
- Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies.
- Collaborate with the finance team to prepare forecasts and budgets that reflect tax implications.
Advisory Role:
- Provide tax advice to management on various business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to tax compliance and reporting.
- Liaise with external tax advisors and auditors as necessary.
Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the tax team.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with tax authorities and other regulatory bodies.
- Represent the company in tax audits and disputes, ensuring that the organization’s interests are protected.
Reporting:
- Prepare and present tax reports and analyses to senior management and the board of directors.
- Ensure that all tax-related documentation is maintained and organized for easy access and review.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CA, or similar) is preferred.Candidate must be a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation
- Minimum of 5- 10 years of experience in tax management or a related field, preferably within a corporate environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian tax laws and regulations, as well as international tax principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax legislation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
