In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bill B. Puplampu reechoed his call on government to consider partnership with credible private universities as an alternative to dealing with the challenges of providing education in Ghana’s Higher Education space. He stated that “we shall not stop arguing that a viable strategy to even out access to higher education is a fee credit/voucher system. Such as system will allow Ghanaian students to take up available slots in private universities of choice and only top up fees where need be”. He further added that, “there are far too many over-crowded lecture halls in public universities while similar programme spaces remain available in private institutions”.
Commenting on initiatives the university is taking to enhance its programme offerings to students and by that consolidate its position as a leading and credible private university, the VC announced that in the last few weeks an agreement was signed for the Phased development of student accommodations on the Miotso Campus to offer up to 5000 beds.
Dr. Denise Duncan, the Ag Dean of Students presented the matriculants and the Registrar, Mr. Emil Afenyo administered the matriculation oath. The event, which was part of the Wednesday Chapel Service, was anchored by University Chaplain Rev. Dr. Fred Brako, with a word of exhortation delivered by Rev. Dr. Godson Ahiabor.
