GIDEON SALAMI ’24 ATTENDS GOOGLE’S FLUTTER FORWARD EVENT IN KENYA

Mr. Gideon Salami ’24, a student of the School of Engineering and Technology, who is the Lead for the Central University Chapter of Google Developer Student Clubs was invited to this year’s Flutter Forward event held last month in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi by the Google Flutter team.

The Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) program, engineered by Google, offers students the platform to acquire skills in web and mobile development, and support them in building their own independent projects. The program aims to foster a community of students who are passionate about technology and want to help each other learn, grow, and make an impact.

Through GDSC, students like Gideon have access to Google developers, resources, and technology to support their learning and development. The program also provides opportunities for students to collaborate on projects and engage with the wider tech community.

Gideon and his colleagues at Central University have been using Flutter framework for mobile app development. Through their collective efforts, the CU team have built a delivery app in Ghana as well as other mobile apps yet to be launched on the Google Play and Apple Stores.

Gideon has been actively contributing to the Flutter global ecosystem, teaching newbies on how to get started, among others. He plays a key role in organizing mobile app development workshops by Google Developer Groups in Kumasi and Accra. Over the years, Gideon has been speaking at tech events in Ghana as well as to audiences in other countries online.

For this year’s Fuller event, Gideon was nominated by Google Sub Saharan Program Manager, Auwal MS to represent Ghana and his local chapter, Central University, at the global event.

About the Event:

“Flutter Forward” is a community-organised event dedicated to the Flutter framework for building high-performance, high-fidelity, app experiences for iOS and Android from a single codebase. The Flutter Forward event is organised by the Google Flutter team. This is the first time the event was held in an African country, Nairobi, Kenya.

It typically features talks and workshops from experts in the field and provides opportunities for attendees to network, share ideas and knowledge, and learn about the latest advancements and best practices in Flutter development. The event is a great opportunity for Flutter developers and enthusiasts to connect with each other, learn from each other, and stay up-to-date with the latest in the tech ecosystem.
