In a moment filled with a sense of accomplishment, the outgoing Student Representative Council (SRC) President, Mr. Ayimey Victor, and his dedicated team gracefully handed over the reins of leadership, marking a smooth transition in the student leadership at Central University for the 2023/2024 academic year.
The handing-over took place during a brief ceremony at the New Senate Room, Miotso campus, where the outgoing president shared insights into the roles and responsibilities of the SRC and their achievements. He also highlighted pending projects that the new administration would need to address and encouraged the incoming team to continue their service to the student body.
The new SRC leaders, entrusted with the responsibility of representing the student body, include Mr. Michael Kusi Yeboah as President, Ms. Ashley Esther Tutu as Vice President, Mr. Dajonang Damyeni as General Secretary, Mr. Lancelott Ben-Akiem as Treasurer, and Ms. Regina Banfo as the Women’s Commissioner. Each member of the new executive team brings unique skills and experience to their roles, to ensure dynamic and effective administration.
The event, which took place on Thursday, October 26, was attended by the Dean of Students and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Denise Duncan, and Mrs. Stella Etse, the Director for Counselling and Career Services. The occasion received further support and endorsement from the national level, with the President of the Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG) and representatives from various academic departments, schools, faculties, and student associations in attendance. Their presence underscores the importance of student governance within the academic community.
In her remarks, Dr. Duncan emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to achieve the SRC’s goals and stressed the need for “visible projects” to be seen by the end of the period. In that light, a new basketball post fixed by the outgone administration was handed over to the new SRC administration for the 2023/24 academic year.
At a similar function at the on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Christ Temple campus in Accra, the new leadership of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Central University Chapter was also sworn into office. They are made up Michael Sarpong (President); Peace Tawiah (Treasurer); Millicent Kwetey Maku (Organizer); Chris Dorle (General Secretary); Georgina Kugbenovi (Women’s Commissioner); Seidu Mohammed Awal Gariba (Kumasi Coordinator).
